The following was sent to the Metro Vancouver Regional District invitation to comment on the application by Weir Minerals Canada, located in North Campbell Heights, to increase emissions.
Weir has applied to emit 19 times the current limit of 0.01 tonnes in its application to increase 2-Butoxyethanol emissions into the atmosphere.
You need to know that less than a kilometer from that emissions source, the prevailing air drift is toward the north-east.
You also need to know that over 200 acres of agricultural land is producing vegetable crops that feed the lower mainland, and that that land is directly downwind and less than a kilometer from the source of the Weir emissions.
Please consider these facts carefully in your decision to allow Weir to increase these toxic emissions.
